Leaking Valve

Even under ideal operating conditions and comprehensive maintenance regimens, valves are subjected to significant wear and tear that can cause them to leak, resulting in a cascade of problems. For example, when launcher or receiver valves won’t isolate because they’re leaking, it prevents safe access to pig loading or retrieval and can halt pigging programs. When offshore platform emergency shutdown valves (ESDV) leak, it can create a hazard for the entire pipeline.

TDW helps Gas Distribution operators repair and replace leaking valves, mitigating the risks that accompany them.

Services include:

  • Pigging to displace pipeline products so valve repair and replacement can proceed safely and with minimal downtime.
  • Non-intrusive inline isolation that enables repair and replacement of pipeline sections while the system remains in service.
  • Hot tapping and plugging services that allow work to proceed at operating pressure.

In the high-stakes world of Gas Distribution operations, detecting and remediating leaking valves is critical to ensuring pipeline safety and reliability. In order to remove a leaking valve, the product inside the pipeline must often be removed as well.

Through a full suite of pigging tools that displace liquids and natural gas, TDW can help pipeline operators minimize downtime, economic impact, and risk to people and the environment.

The TDW line of displacement toolsmost of them equipped with long-lasting, highly effective Real-Seal® urethane cupsincludes:

  • UNISPHERE™ pig – Heavy-duty inflatable sphere that removes liquid hydrocarbons and water from pipelines and piping systems.
  • REDSKIN™ urethane foam pig Tough and abrasion-resistant, used for dewatering, air removal prior to hydrostatic testing, and drying after hydrostatic testing.
  • OptionALL™ batching pig Designed for light cleaning, line filling and dewatering, batch separation, and liquid removal.
  • VANTAGE® V batching pig – Used for batching, displacing, and light cleaning.
  • ULTRA™ pig – All-urethane pig that is capable of batching and displacement.
  • X-Pig® multi-purpose utility tool Flexible and versatile all-urethane pig that can negotiate tight pipeline turns. Appropriate for cleaning, batching, and displacement operations.
  • VANTAGE® + pig Can be used for batching and displacement. Flexible in tight bend pipelines and can traverse a 20 percent reduction in interior pipe diameter.

TDW offers Gas Distribution market owners and operators hot tapping and plugging (HT&P) solutions for a wide array of pipeline defects and maintenance challenges from dents to corrosion to valve failure. TDW equipment and services are engineered for safety and efficiency, allowing operators to better protect their employees and the surrounding community.

The HT&P process incorporates a low pressure pipeline fitting, valve, tapping machine, and isolation equipment – all working together to provide a safe and proven isolation solution. Once the area of pipeline that needs work has been safely isolated and evacuated, the line modification can be performed.

TDW isolation technology plays a critical role in this process, and a temporary bypass allows work to be performed without the need to stop product flow. The TDW STOPPLE® Train isolation system, for example, uses double block and bleed technology to help increase efficiency and safety during pipeline modification. This approach to line isolation, which only requires a single pipeline tap, reduces costs associated with fittings, valves, welding, and inspection services. The bleed port affixed on the line ensures that any product that bypasses the first seal is contained and evacuated through the bleed port, which helps operators better protect people and the environment.

Whether operators are purchasing equipment to perform their own HT&P jobs or turn to TDW to execute the service for them, they can rely on the company’s broad line of equipment and consumables. TDW application engineers are recognized industry experts, ready to assist operators through each project phase – from start to finish. To meet regional needs quickly and efficiently, TDW maintains equipment and consumables in service centers around the globe.

TDW also offers RES-Q® Wrap and Steel Repair Sleeves, quick, simple solutions that allow operators to keep their pipeline operational and within code.

To prepare for future challenges, operators have the option of creating an Emergency Pipeline Repair System (EPRS), which equips them to take a proactive approach to pipeline emergencies. Working with the TDW team, operators will have the planning and resources in place to repair and recommission their pipelines — and restore product flow — in the shortest time possible.
